A player who has come a long way in the short space of time since a fairly nondescript league debut back in April as a late substitute against Walsall. His most notable moment in a Sky Blues shirt was that wonderful, almost nonchalant, free-kick away at Luton, but more generally, he has shown over the course of this season that he is far from out of place at first-team level and genuinely has something to offer at such an early stage in his career.
Jordan Shipley’s best attributes are his set-piece delivery – underlined by the fact that senior players were handing him corner and free-kicks to take right from his very first appearances for the club – and his versatility – he’s played in central midfield, on the wing, and at left-back already this season. If it wasn’t for both of those things, he wouldn’t have played so much this season. Without his set-piece deliveries, Mark Robins wouldn’t have tried to fashion him into the side. Without his versatility, Robins wouldn’t have been able to find him a role in the side. As wonderful as those two things are to have though, Shipley is going to have to be more aggressive in asserting himself onto the pitch – wherever that may be – if he is now to establish himself as a first-choice player.
